  • Air Corps Cessna Circling over Killarney?

    Hey folks,

Just out of curiosity there was an Air Corps Cessna circling over Killarney for long time on Wednesday around mid day (serial no 210), Anybody got any info as to what it was doing?

It's not very common to see the Air Corps around here so I took a few pictures with my dad's camera using a zoom lens:

      Take your pick

Although carrying out many different roles, the vast majority of operations in which the five Cessna FR172H aircraft are involved in, are aerial surveillance and monitoring of cash and prisoner & explosive escorts.
The role of the Air Corps under the Defence Act is to contribute to the security of the State by providing for the Military Air Defence of its airspace. However in times of peace it is more usual for the Air Corps to fulfil the roles assigned by Government through the deployment of a well motivated and effective Air Corps.

back of current an cosantoir has a vox pop from one of that sqn pilot's as to roles and taskings, more or less what pym has said.
"Are they trying to shoot down the other drone? "

"No, they're trying to fly the tank"

Could be anything that's listed on the page above - from a pilot hour building, to helping a survey, or doing intel, whatever.

I think if you're looking for anything more specific, especially if this was an operational job - you're very probably lurching into opsec territory which the DF wouldnt be happy to have discussed on an open forum

Yes but operational tasking's are not for discussion on an open internet forum unless the Air Corps or Government decide to put such info into the public domain which they wont in this case.

compulsory viewing for potential air corps air gunners? I wonder will they revive the "AG" brevet?

                      regards

Next time buy a cheap scanner and tune to Faranfore tower frequency 123.325. Won't tell you exactly what they are doing though.

No-one ever said that it was secret or covert; they said that operational details aren't to be discussed here.
