  • 100th Anniversary 1916 Parade - New Vehicles?

    Hi Al

    It's a slow Friday in the office :-) so a little speculation to help pass the time.

    Assuming the white Paper is published in July...
    And assuming that it is favorable to increasing our capabilities and budget (As Covney has suggested)
    What are the chances of shiny new vehicles being purchased in time to drive them down Dublin's O'Connell street for next years parade?

    Personally I can't see it happening. There just inst time. A tender would have to be agreed upon, then published, then awarded, then contracts signed, then aforementioned new stuff gets produced and arrives. Very tight to have this done for Easter next year.

    But the Scorps have to go and if they do then maybe more MRV's? Or perhaps some CV 90's? (Crusties would be apoplectic at that - which would make it worth it for that reason alone! :-) Can just imagine them going on and on about Ireland having "Tanks" Lollers!

    Best we can hope for it the IMVG folk will show up with all the old army wagons they bought.
    For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

        I wouldn't be surprised if the DF "trials" a large number of vehicles in 2016, and they just happen to wind up in the parade

          'He died who loved to live,' they'll say,
          'Unselfishly so we might have today!'
          Like hell! He fought because he had to fight;
          He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.

            I'll take 14 Challengers, 12 Warthogs, 12 Husky's and 24 Ridgebacks - all served with green paint.
            A couple of Type 23's and a half dozen Wildcats for the Navy.
            A pair of C130J's and Shadow R1's and sure throw in 6 Merlin HC3's for the Air Corps.

            No rush, this time Friday would be grand.

              They could say they are based in Ireland (just not within the 26 counties).
