Hmmm this could interesting development in the LATV competion that was cancelled was it fitted with a turret of any kind or simple a cupabla ring for a machine gun???

It would great to see the LATV issue coming back on the agenda also it be good to see a vechicle along the lines of the Timoney Bushmaster APV being selected as it would meet alot of Defence Forces current and future needs etc...

Thats a massive leap there max. F sees a Humvee in the curragh and you look forward to the Bushmaster being selected as an "APV"?

Please explain how you reahed this conclusion? I am baffled by your train of thought.
I am also baffled at how some people have such a hard on for the bushmaster, considering the difficulties the aussies have been having with it.

That said, it isnt the first time there has been one on trial in the Curragh. I remember back in the early 90s there was also an armoured version (reportedly seen doing CIT escort) on trial.
It does not mean that the chequebook has been produced.

However in saying that, there is still a requirement for 65 Light tactical armoured vehicles.

Im sorry i think i have been mis-quoted i know for many many years that the DF have tested and evaluated many types of vechicles and other equipment. By my previous post i was emplying that i think it is great that the Army are trailing such vechicles as the Humvee since it has been decided that the Mowag Eagles will not fit the bill a vechicle such this one in Curragh which could possible be a M1114 Centigon i.e an up-armoured Humvee. (I do not think it meanwe will definitly be purchased)

Goldie my preference for the Timoney/ADI Bushmaster (Armoured Personnel Vechicle or Infantry Mobility Vechicle i.e APV or IMV) is a personal one, Not just because it is a Irish designed vechicle but also because of its great capabilities and it Mine Protection and attractive price it could provide the Army with a great On Island APV (really a small APC-MATV) it would also meet the currently needed for the likes of Infantry (Medium Armoured Tactical Vehicle,IS vehicle),Artillery (Armoured Mobile Gun Tractor and armured CP etc..),Engineers (Assualt Pioneers) and other duties such as LSB as a Armoured Logestic Platform are some of the duties these vehicles could be used for.

I know this platform has suffered from teething problems in initial Austrailian army service but like many other modern military vechicles they have been fixed and have been overcome since they first developed. I like the Bushmaster for these reasons and is personal choice that think would be a great assest to modern Irish Defence Forces and the missions they will be facing in years to come..

But can you not grasp the concept of keeping remotely on topic?

        For anything?

        A Bushmaster

        A Humvee

The Moderation staff on IMO have been kept very busy trying to split, merge and edit your posts in an attempt to keep the original threads readable. If a reader sees a topic with the title "new pistol for DF" he does not expect to find it drifting off into the pro's and cons of BVR air to air missiles.

This topic has the title Humvee on Trial Nowhere is there mention of Bushmaster, Armoured gun towing vehicles or anything like that. This is not the first time you have been warned about keeping to the topic. We welcome your submissions of course, and would ask you to create new threads, instead of drifting off on tangents from existing threads.

        Keep to the Topic!

The Bushmaster looks apparently belie its functionality, according to reports in the Aussie media it's more mobile that the ASLAV.

The "tank" at the back is a spare wheel (one or two may be carried), with a DPM cover, both for visibility reasons and to protect from the Australian sun.

On further inspection yeah looks like a spare wheel, still the whole thing looks very much like a van with armour and big tyres, dosen't look very purpose built, though i suppose it does have a lot of room for equipment which is good, like an armoured Mercedes truck.

It's very much purpose built, designed by Timoney Technology in Meath, as a Mine Protected, Multi Purpose, Armoured vehicle using COTS/MOTS technolgies to keep costs down.

Commercial off the shelf/Military off the shelf.

They both pertain to purchasing and using already proven systems so as to reduce costs, risk and ease entry into service.

This would provide us a great Multi Purpose armoured vechicle especially for the likes of an Internal Security Vechicle or urban patrol vehicle aswell as they could provide the basis as an armoured resupply truck for the likes of the LSBs for supplying forward operating/battlefield assets i.e troops, mowags etc... with essentials like Fuel, rations and ammo etc.. instead of just sending these important assets up in a soft skined TCV/CSS truck the bushmaster could provise an armoured logisticc vechicle also acting as on ammo resupply etc.. and it would provide these important resupply crews with more protection when carrying there cargo and other supplies.

Here are few pics of the Bushmaster in Austrailian service and a internal pic of what the Bushmaster looks like from the outside in note: the Mowag style seats and restraints for protection from mine blasts or crash/vehicle overturn etc.. the Bushmaster is fitted with a single main door at the rear with steps leading up to main troop cabin it would probly be ad-visable to replace these as they could be used as a training vechicle for the Mowag APCs aswell as for ease of loading goods instead of just carring them up steps. Just A Few Taughts...

What internal security role can you see this massive machine being good for, let alone justified for?
