Lads the organisers of the Duncannon Fort Military Show in Co. Wexford have asked me to post a few details of the event on this site.
As you know the event will be over three days 3rd, 4th & 5th June. Military Vehicles and Re-Enactment groups will include the following:
Legion Augustus (Romans), Celts, Vikings, Normans, Gallowglass, Kerns and general Medieval re-enactment.
1798 Pikemen, 88th Foot Connaught Rangers, American Civil War
Irish Company Great War Society
Irish War of Independence
World War II: Battle Group South (German) with a Sdkfz 251 Ausf C Halftrack APC, Opel Blitz Truck, Kubelwagens, BMW Motorcycle combinations, Zundap and a Flak Gun. London Irish Rifles (UK) with Trucks, Jeeps, Bofors AA gun, BSA & Matchless motorbikes etc.
36th Motor Infantry Brigade (Russian), 101st Airborne and 82nd Airborne (US).
Cold War: MMVRG Abbot Tracked SPH and FV432 Tracked APC, also the Irish military vehicle group will have their display of vehicles and kit.
So far there are almost 400 re-enactors coming to the event. All of the above re-enactment groups will stage regular battles during each day with the fort echoing to the sound of muskets, swords and machine guns.
So far participants are coming from Ireland, UK, Germany, Holland and France.
Stalls will include, Irish badges and insignia, Prince August, Medal Club, a stall selling WWII uniforms etc. etc.
A number of other individuals and groups may also be present and I will post details when I have them.
The Fort has a Tea room and the village has a pub and takeaway etc. There are no chip vans.
I will be a great event and well worth a visit!
