    Hi all
there was a programme on during the week(I found it by accident) about two important events in the Vietnam War. The first was the destruction of a Delta Company (can't remember the parent unit) when ambushed by the VC. Three infantry companies were on a search and destroy mission and ran into the dug-in strength of a VC Main Force regiment of approx 1000 men. They lost 64 dead and about the same in wounded and the VC force got clear away with few actual dead. The Army spun the defeat into a victory and claimed huge VC casualties. At home, a peaceful protest in a university turned into a bloody riot (started as a result of police over-reaction and blamed on Commies) and lit the spark of university and street protest, all of which contributed to the pullout from Vietnam. Either from the Storyville or Timewatch series, it featured veterans of both events and was really good viewing.
    regards

It may have being the riot at Kent State university in 1966 which resulted in several students being shot dead by state troopers.

        Hi there
It was a Storyville production for BBC 2. It wasn't Kent State, rather some other place in Missouri or some midwest state and there were no deaths and the baton-wielders were the local police. I thought the deaths in Kent State occurred at the hands of National Guardsmen. The programme was called "How Vietnam was lost".
        Well worth a watch.
        regards
