    Always remembering A/Mech Johnny McNamara who died in September 1985.

        Yes the year is correct, he was killed in a motor cycle accident in Bandon his home town. 6 September 1985.

        Also John was the first Duty Mech on Eithne.

          Can't say I knew the guy , but condolences as I know what it is like to loose afriend under similar cicumstances.

              GR, how did I make that mistake, yes you are of course correct, it was 1985 and not 2005, gees my memory is doing strange things as the years slip by.

                    GR, Have to agree with you when you say about the bond that buids up. When I was in the service I was not aware of this bond. It was only years later that I realised I had a bond with the people whom I served with.

                    Maybe this is something that comes with age or that there is a realisation that only eerges when you have left the service and something in civi life that brings back a memory.

                    For me the time spent in the service was very special, and that is something I would not have thought when I was actually serving.

                          Found this recently in a book. I can't believe it was so far back. Always remembered John. Not a forgotten ship mate.
