  • Ex-Sergeant Dessie Hughes

    Very sad to report the passing of a true gent, Dessie Hughes from Monaghan Barracks.
    Dessie was Ex- Naval Service and Ex-Merchant Navy.
    Great exploits were made and great contacts gained through his manner.
    A brilliant scammer who kept the Barracks going with what ever was needed. A Man who will be sadly missed by all Comrades who knew him.

    Dessie passed away in Cavan Hospital and was buried with Honours from Members of Monaghan Barracks.

    May he rest off in eternal Peace,

          RIP

          and knowing Dessie he will take that as

          either let it rip

          or lets go on the rip

          the world is a lesser place because of his passing but the world is also a better place because he was here
          Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
          Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
          The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
          The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
          The best lack all conviction, while the worst
          Are full of passionate intensity.
