Foreign Affairs Committee to discuss the report of the Commission on Defence Forces with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence Simon Coveney

The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence will meet on Tuesday October 4th to discuss the report of the Commission on Defence Forces with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence, Simon Coveney.
The meeting will take place in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House between 15:15-18:15.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Charlie Flanagan said: “The Committee welcomes the opportunity to engage with the Minister in matters relating to the report of the Commission on the Defence Forces which sets out the capabilities, structures and staffing of the Defence Forces.”
“The Commission’s undertook a process of wide consultation with stakeholders and received almost 500 public submissions.”
“The report was wide ranging and forthright in its assessment and proposes changes to defence provision in Ireland with recommendations covering Defence Forces structure, culture within the Defence Forces, security and funding.”
