  • New Scanias look nice. When was the decision made to change from matt green to Camo pattern?
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

    • Do we still have any bedfords anywhere?

      • Last one boarded sometime in the 90s I'd say. It's been MAN, Merc and Daf during the years I spent in uniform between 1988 and 2011.

An army is power. Its entire purpose is to coerce others. This power can not be used carelessly or recklessly. This power can do great harm. We have seen more suffering than any man should ever see, and if there is going to be an end to it, it must be an end that justifies the cost. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain

That seems to be a very generic Euro scheme, especially on AFVs. Is it to do with IRR paint?

Very impressed with this latest arrival yesterday. The Hiab has serious capacity for a straight lift.
Point for the organisers, maybe put a sign or something in front of the vehicle telling what it is? I was given a rundown by the very helpful DF member from the Transport side, who shared by love for cranage, But even an A4 sheet inside the window telling what it is would be helpful and save him having to explain to all the attendees what the vehicle did?

What was the point of painting bits of it green, if the rest is grey plastic and chrome?

So you know its not a civvy truck?

Clearly you are unfamiliar with the "white" fleet. (Not the UN stuff).

You missed the red and yellow then?

Certainly am familiar. I was in when "White fleet" work was being done with Land Rovers and tatty Transits. Again, what's the point of painting it green when it's festooned with bright and shiny colours anyway, if it's only going to do non-combat roles and never face an operational day in it's life? Should have saved the green paint for the things that really need it. As an aside, I was present when a senior Officer "asked" the Transport fitter to take off mudflaps and other objects bearing the name of the supplier from a brand new Transit, within earshot of the supplier's man. Deliberately, I suspect. The fitter, a bit surprised, asked why. "We don't do advertising!". Mudflaps and other marked sundries removed on the spot and replaced with unmarked/unnamed items........you had to be there. The look on the supplier's face was priceless........It was funny at the time.

                          • Yeah, I'm assuming that'll be doing all its recovery work at home, duallies on the drive axles aren't ideal for offroad. However for replacing an engine out of an APC truck or whatever down the country, this yoke is the job, and green is a corporate colour, same as any fleet. When you order them, they get delivered in a colour. (usually yellow, easier to prime after.)

remember the muddy green colour that appeared on some Transit vans about ten years ago?

It look like they had been sanded?
