British Army Lynx Crash in Armagh.

Just heard on the news, Lynx crashed in the Crossmaglen Rangers Grounds. No Fatalities.
8 injured, Passengers mix of Military/Police. No suggestion that the crash was anything other than accidental at this time.

Six members of the UK security forces have been injured after a British army helicopter crashed near a housing estate in south Armagh.

The crash happened just before 6pm at Foxfield Road in Crossmaglen, which is close to the police and British army base and a housing estate.

The helicopter, believed to be a Lynx, was transporting a group of soldiers and members of the PSNI.

AdvertisementThere were seven people on board the helicopter, and four police officers and two military personnel were hurt.

There were reports of one casualty being flown to the Craigavon Area hospital and of the others being taken to the Daisyhill Hospital in Newry.

The extent of their injuries was not immediately known. One member of the aircrew was unhurt.


The Army is due to pull out of the security base in Crossmaglen at the end of the month as part of the normalisation process but those working in the base are currently still ferried into and out of the base by air.

The cause of the crash is not known, but Northern Ireland suffered high winds and driving snow falls in many areas throughout the day.

Myself being a helper down in Parnell Park, I've had the unpleasant experience at being on the recieving end of Crossmaglen fans. Wasn't fun.
