Not very stable looking considering how calm the water looks - but it could have been there a while.

In fairness, it's still floating. Electronics are probably shafted, but I'll wager the engine's good and they could yet repair it.

never mind the electronics....at least the crew could be dried out and re-used (although maybe not to fly anything more than a desk?)
An army is power. Its entire purpose is to coerce others. This power can not be used carelessly or recklessly. This power can do great harm. A bit harsh? I remember a Colonel in the Air Corps who crashed twice, and he was still flying.

Didn't someone crash Alouette 212 into a Lake about 15 years ago? Was trying to land at a hotel where a wedding was being held. one of the Guests caught the whole thing on Video. Remember seeing it on the news at the time.

                Hi there
It is alleged that the pilot tried to land on a tiny pier (too small for the "footprint" of the Alouette) so as to impress friends of his at the wedding.Given the noise of said heli, it'd be easier to .... people off than impress them.Anyhow, the aircraft slipped off the pier, thrashed itself silly and the crewman recieved serious back injuries.Quite ironic, given that the heli was on a body search.many of the wedding guests had their cameras handy, like you do, and took plenty of pics of the event.Result: one Alouette that couldn't be fixed, an injured crewman and a red face for the prat at the pointy end.
                regards

The actual story of the ditching into Lough Eske as far as i can remember is as follows

The A111 was due to pick up a garda at the pier to bring him on some sort of aerial recce.
When coming into a hover at the pier the pilot claimed to experience vibes in the chopper and went around. I think he done this a few times and on the last occasionn lost control and the chopper ditched. The chopper rolled over on its side but luckily the water there was only about 6 feet deep as the flotation gear was not deployed. The crewman(who couldn't swim) had fractured vertebrae but managed to climb out onto the upturned side of the chopper. The pilot swam to shore . Members of a wedding party who witnessed the crash went out on a row boat to assist the crewman. The sar Dauphin in Finner arrived soon after.

After the subsequent investigation changes were made to the manitenence schedule on the blade spacing system on the main rotor head even though nothing was actually found wrong with it. This was obviously due to the pilote report of "vibes" before the crash although anyone who has ever flown in A111 will know its a bone shaker all the time

Yeah bet he got some bad vibes afterwards too...what ever happened to a captain going down with his ship?

Like that... he led the exit from the helo from the front..every man for himself!

Women and children and officers first...the crew can sort thems selves out.

                        Hi all
I know the crewman and his account differed then(and probably still does) from the pilot's.The aircraft was on the pier, with two wheels(one nose, one main) in contact, and rolled off. The crewman ended upsidedown with water pouring into the cabin(his words) and his back injured by rocks and airframe debris(the bits of the downside door). The pilot waded ashore, if even that, as it was about knee-deep near the pier....I have seen several photos of the wreck and the crash site and quite simply, it was a stupid thing to attempt. As an aside, the requirement to bring a Garda on a body search came about after several incidents where Gardai were deliberately non-specific about how long bodies were in the water. After several events, where the Donners were forced to bring badly-decomposed corpses into the aircraft, they abandoned this policy and required the Gardai to retrieve the deceased by boat.
                        regards
