Just wondering, due to its small size, is it difficult to get promotions beyond captain in the air corps?

Any idea of how many of the higher officer ranks there are serving in the air corps?

    Tried searching it, found nothing!

To whet your appetite, a quick Google found THIS, albeit from 1997.

I'm sure our army of searchers will have a more up to date answer.

I met a AC Lt Col in his mid to late 30s last year, that would be unheard of the in the army!

These things happen in cycles. All of the top brass tend to retire together. The question is how long will the above remain a Lt Col for, given the few vacancies that exist above him?

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

          Hi there
One can rise early in the Don and then stay at that level until death or Ryanair have claimed those above you......people in flying or tech slots tend to get promoted much faster than their Army equivalent, as so many of the slots require a postholder to be a Sgt. In the multi-crew cockpit, an Aircraft Commander has to be at least a Captain.Sometimes, a period of a lot of retirements or resignations can cause a rapid upward drift.
          regards

In my time in the AC it seemed as if all you had to do as an AC officer was wait for the lad above you to take a job outside then wipee your a Comdt!!!!!!!
As one pilot once said to me, the pilots will leave and the officers will stay. True story and he was an LT Col....

But in all fairness the AC has alot more officers than other ranks comparied to NS or Army so the young LT Col etc, is an example of the turn-over of pilots within the corps.

The DF cannot hold onto the pilots it trains up for the real world and obviously if a Capt in the AC is looking at walking into a civi job on two or three times the wage of a LT Col, why would they stay?????????????
Although I have walked in the valley of the shadows of death I fear no evil...

Is this not a good thing? Look at the problems the army has with too many officers chosing not to go to civvi street....
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

The establishment is approx 1000. A Lt Colonel is the rank of a wing commander (of which there are 5 I think) the rest could be in tech/ops/admin appointments.
