Did anyone here why the Air Corps turned down a mission to Transfere a 18 month old Baby to Manchester last night for a liver Transplant? The Coast Guard helicopter from Sligo had to bring the Baby instead.

Yes we all heard the proper reason- sorry we cant tell you, but your not part of the cult.

Hedgehog,
It would be funny only it is so serious. If it was after 4 pm on friday or over a weekend that is probably your answer, don't forget it is a bank holiday into the deal. Same old ,same old by the looks of things. Pretty Embaresing now, and doing themselves no favours at all. Obviousily not going to drop things to give anybody a hand.
No doubt there will be someone along to tell you the reasons why. No MoU, no SLA. Watch this service (air ambulance) disappear too. The people who are looking for the assets patience must be wearing thin now. Is that a tumble weed I see rolling across the Don.Last edited by Helihead; 1 August 2010, 17:46.

Mate
I dont see the funny side of it-
I see the scray side- who ever posted the initial question should have known that no one
on this site has the authority to make any decisions in this regard- so no one on this site is to blame
and even if someone on this site knew the answer, how wrong do you think it would be to
breach confidences and publish it-
the question was shite- I dont know what it intended to provoke- but the manner it was framed was
insulting to the men and women of the AC-
you can bet your left teste that every person within the AC and the DF as a whole would
do everything humanely possible to aid a sick child.Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

There is an sla, there are crews rostered, and they are rostered 24/7, worst thing about this site is armchair experts expressing opinions based on little or no accuarate information. I find the suggestion that a mission would be turned down because it was a friday and a bank holiday disgraceful especially when you know that no one from that organisation can openly at least defend themselves and when there was a child involved.
the below could be a possibility
There was already an air ambulance out........with the air amb equipment installed.....no air amb equipment for another 139,
or everyone was out on the piss for the weekend cos its a bank hol and they said screw the sick kid an its family
then what would i know........................
by the way its transfer not transfere

No I'm not danger mouse, I'm a bit more adult than that.Just replied to the thread, sorry if it hit a nerve with you. My interest in this is as a citizen/taxpayer of this state and a parent, I just hope I never need to use the service. We had the top cover thing last week,thats fine. The CASA's are not SAR assets as we have been told. But I did believe the the IAC porvided 24/7 air ambulance cover using fixed wing a and heli assets. Is that not the case. At least the IRCG were there to stand up to the plate.Last edited by Helihead; 1 August 2010, 18:57.

I can see your concerns Heli
but lets face it- no one here can or should rightfully answer your question
try AC HQ- your local TD or even Pat O Connor in the pres office.
You didnt actually hit a nerve- but we should all be on guard to make sure the DF
isnt denigrated by mad questionsLast edited by hedgehog; 1 August 2010, 23:07.Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

Hi All, i can tell you that it was this particular childs 3rd trip by air ambulance, the first two were by A.C. aircraft but this time they were told that there was no A.C. aircraft available. From the time they were informed there was an organ available to the Sligo aircraft being tasked was an hour and a half, in this time they were informed the A.C. were not available.

Do the people think it is as simple as getting a phone call, hopping in the aircraft and off it goes? There is a 24 hr air ambulance service in place so those people saying the call must have been after 4 pm are talking rubbish and obviously don't know what they are talking about. No crew would turn down a medical flight unless there was a serious reason.
Does anyone know what the weather was like that night? Would the crew have had enough duty hours to complete the mission? Was there special medical equipment required the the air corps didn't have? How stable was the patient? Was there a risk the condition could worsen?
It's not as simple as some people think!

Second time trying to post here!!!
This particular baby has previously been flown by air ambo on two seperate occasions by IAC. The parents were informed of this trip at 12 midnight on the night in question, after a request being made, they were told the IAC were not available and at 01:25 the Sligo C.G. aircraft was tasked.
