Wiki has it that if the Irish pursued a purchase, it would be limited to Sidewinder capable only.
We have discussed the advantage of having RF missiles as well as IR and the decision would be the operational need, mainly driven by weather conditions. While early usage of the F16 in the air defence role was limited to Sidewinders with the advance of the AIM120 series of missile the typical CAP mission now has a mix. It is always a bit strange to see the much heavier AIM120 on the wingtip rail!

While the KAI F50 could be suitable and I am a fan of the KF-21 there is the question would the Koreans be allowed to bid? The Croatians were originally interested in the F50 but they never received a reply to their original RFI. This could be as the T50/F50 was heavily reliant upon support from Lockheed and thus cannot be offered in certain parts of the world where it would compete against the F16. What restriction will be placed on sales of the KF-21 we will have to see.
That would mean the most likely contenders would be the same two we could have looked at 20+ years ago after 9/11; F16 vs JAS39.
