Keeps popping up. Its not very accurate.
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

    • This is actually far more worthwhile, from an Irish perspective.

      • Air Policing submission document

It hightlights the FA-50 as the most realistic option

From a randomer who may or may not be working for KAI.

Iirc, it came from an ex-GOC Air Corps?

Who may or may not now be working for KAI? There is nothing in the document that suggests it is.

                • Interesting bit from one of the other EU neutrals, as Sweden is now reporting that one of the earlier incursions by Russian Aircraft had nukes on board.

Wiki has it that if the Irish pursued a purchase, it would be limited to Sidewinder capable only.

                      Probably fake, thankfully

Currently Sidewinder is the only AAM integrated with the KAI FA-50, they are reportedly working on adding AMRAAM

Follow the reference in wiki and you will find nothing to support the statement.

We have discussed the advantage of having RF missiles as well as IR and the decision would be the operational need, mainly driven by weather conditions. While early usage of the F16 in the air defence role was limited to Sidewinders with the advance of the AIM120 series of missile the typical CAP mission now has a mix. It is always a bit strange to see the much heavier AIM120 on the wingtip rail!

                          • While the KAI F50 could be suitable and I am a fan of the KF-21 there is the question would the Koreans be allowed to bid? The Croatians were originally interested in the F50 but they never received a reply to their original RFI. This could be as the T50/F50 was heavily reliant upon support from Lockheed and thus cannot be offered in certain parts of the world where it would compete against the F16. What restriction will be placed on sales of the KF-21 we will have to see.

That would mean the most likely contenders would be the same two we could have looked at 20+ years ago after 9/11; F16 vs JAS39.

                            • That's more like it. Bit of BVR, they don't like it up 'em.

...and that's it in a nutshell, why nations get pissed off with American dominance.
