Honestly given hopefully something from cabinet I thought the article was a bit premature, even if it’s just LoA2 at least the primary radar gap looks like it will be dealt with. For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

What George is also forgetting is that we were also crucially dependent on their SAR and their willingness to come over here and help us in extremis. Our Govt wilfully declined to spend adequately on SAR and they dug us out of a few holes. Allowing the RAF to step in with fighters etc is also part of the deal, albeit not spoken about too loudly.

To be fair, RAF/RN sar only stopped carrying the can for us here the minute their SAR Heli service was privatised to HM Coastguard. RN Sea King was a familiar visitor to Cork Airport, often to train with the local pre IRCG cliff rescue teams. For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.
