Now that the RAF are getting rid of a number of fast jet squadrans, Would there be any point in the DOD puting in a feeler to see what the state of the equipment being decommisioined is like, Possibly be able to pick up a few rotor assets also.

They are getting rid of Tornado F3s (pure AD fighters) & Jaguars (ground attack& recce only), it won't be worth it, we were to buy anything it should be capable of doing all the jobs.
We would have to buy advanced trainers (eg Hawk) to cover jet training.
But are these vehicles not just going into a storage yard or something similar to gather dust. I would think that they would simply store them away in the case of a war then destroy or sell them something like what the US did with all those tanks/planes in the desert.

No, the MOD pushes surplus gear out to their agent's pretty quick, you should see the stuff they sell, alot is almost brand new barely used :(
