Why deos it require room for a 9man fullt equipped infnatry section?
It has been stated elsewhere that militarily, ARW CT tranport and insertion are the priority requirments..........
in this it would appear that the helicopter in question has adequate room for and utility for an assault team, and the potential for 'fastrope' insertion equipment.
whast wrong wiht it?
check the usuable cockpit space internal dismensions for the helicopters on offer.
Just becasue the S70's external dimensions are large does not mean that its internal volumes are the largest on offer, or indeed that this excess is any way more efficent then a smaller, say more manuverable in urban space, helicopter.

As for little Birds....we(The tender) want twin engine..and its cold outdoors in this country...wouldnt like to try to free my frozen hand from the outside of a heli while on ex in the wicklow mountains this time of year...
Thankfully the Penny Pinching DoD already have the tender process near completion before they saw your ideas, and tried to hand us a few R22s as MLH..with external Bench seats.
Read the details, they are all over this section.
Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

Yes the infantry section in a pso bn/coy is 8 troops."Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.
