Not forgetting the 2 EC135s,also due for delivery later this year, the following site will be the first place to see these aircraft, when complete,as they are being built in Germany.

Don't be fooled by the Reg. All aircraft carry the reg of the country of manufacture during pre delivery test flights.

I was being sarcastic re green, white and orange

Green, white and orange ? :tri:

Seriously though, '3 colours' probably means 3 colour schemes - e.g. as Dauphin colours (no thanks), all green (not bad...) or camo scheme (yes please !).

    my 2c.

From the latest publication on the machine.......

...'In a military support role they can carry up to eight fully equipped troops at a weight of 115kgs {each}over a range of 280 nautical miles. With the same troop compliment and an additional 380kg of equipment the range is still an impressive 150 nm'

This is pathetic......we can not even put the most basic infantry element...the section into the air with there associated equipment...but no doubt it will be able to carry one minister and a few assistants plus the expenses credit card.

The Department and the minister have failed the requirements of the DF again. CRIMINAL!

Yeah the Casa is the work horse...given the fact its the only aircraft with the lift capability to carry Mary Harney!

The USCG operated the HH65...a cosin of the SA365fi that we use. They bought it for a specific role and left the equipment firt alone....nice machine.

However we buy SA365fi ..give it every role under the sun strap on every piece of shiny kit available abd wonder why they are knackerd after a very short lifespan!

You are wrong on the 6 troop thing there, the AB139 can carry 10 plus 2 pilots,or 8+4.Lets see how it preforms before we write it off? It is being bought by others. The USCG for one.

As for the rest, the CASA is probably the most functional aircraft in the Air Corps usage.

The real problem with DF spending is the bloody White paper. The security situation has changed dramatically in the last 5 years, yet equipment purchases since then have been based on its recommendations, but only when it was the cheaper option. It has been a crutch for the civil servants to justify not spending on defence.

It was a beginning, but the list of contributors to it made sure it would be no more than a whitewash.

    For example:

Department of Finance(This is how much you will not be spending)
Fassaroe Sporting Club, Sandyford(What do they have to do with defence?)
    GOAL(Humanitarian aid missions)
Green Party(replace all guns with flowers)
Irish Medical Organisation(we want an air ambulance)
Tralee Urban District Council(Ferris family and buddies)
    Workers' Party(Diet SF)

Ireland buys another pig in a poke.......six troop deployment out of a shiny three coloured machine. We had that capability with the dauphins ...and the allouttes.

the one decent machine we had ..we returned .....PUMA...even the bleedin bulgarians are buying these machines....we need a machine that can at least lift 20 troops and have an all weather deployment ....these are a bit like the dauphins ...sports cars ...everbody likes the look but nobody buys them !

The Airwing of the DF in this country has remained stagnant since the mid nineteen sixties ...buying aircraft piece meal..and successors to the above are aircraft that look good on paper but operationally, disasters.

Every aircraft that this country has purchased since the vampires and allouettes has been to provide a training mode...training for what! we have yet to buy and aircraft that is not a lead in trainer . We had an oppertunity with the advent of the celtic tiger to seriously consider operational aircraft..and what did we buy ...more lead in trainers. the Aer Corps in its present form is nothing more than a taxi service for the ministers ...... a military non entity....

Fund the aircorps or scrap it..
