  • Clothing entitlements of the RDF

Perhaps someone should propose that the issue, and wearing of personal equipment be the same for both PDF and RDF..which is as it SHOULD be!

Or would that be too sensible?

In theory a good idea Turkey

but remember my issue is on the basis that I am on or can be on duty 365 days a year

with the best will in the world even the most active reservist will only do about

(insert appropiate number so that the active lads dont rip your arm off)

and you lads dont need no 1's and great ocoats and shite like that,

the motion should be that fiield units ( artillery pukes and Infantry Gods) get a proper

    issue

of field dress- rain gear- field boots- CEFO- CEMO- helmets and the socks jock and dry

    flow gick

your Ponti's should get a lesser issue- just like ours do

Now its bad enough a problem when they disappear with uniform that costs 100-200 euros but if it was 1000-2000 euros things would be different.

Clothing like rain gear etc... should be personal issue, at least for people with a certain amount of service. Surely its a hygiene / health issue giving the same clothing to people to wear without washing it etc...

There are not enough incentives to stay in the RDF. Too many push factors. A reward system, wherby you get more personal issue with proper service would in my opinion be a good idea.
Alternatively, those who leave the RDF without handing back kit could be charged for desertion and theft of government property, instead of being ignored. This would also make the RDF a much more serious force, rather than just a drinking club.

They couldn't be charged with desertion attendance at training is voluntary unless called out.

What I ment by CS & CSS is combat support & combat service support.

                Should have made that clear.

Excellent idea, so it'll never happen.

You don't have to be Combat Service Support to be a PONTI. Most of HQ Coy in any self-respecting Inf Bn has little or no tactical importance.

"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.
