RDF Service Medal in Minature/Ranting about mess dress

Hi All.

I'm trying to lay my hands on the FCA/SM Service medal in miniature. I have asked around and was told they existed at one time. I have contacted the Canteen stores, Mc Kee Barracks and MMI Group and both say that the other does them. So I am starting to run out of options. Anyone able to provide advice. Urgently looking for a 7yr medal and have requests for 12 & 21 year medals.

I have a source that says they can get them done up but with a minimum order of 100. Anyone interested?

There is already a long-running project for this, am about 2 months out of date since I'm not part of it. The die was lost as I recall, so a lot of the work centered on getting a new one.

The only difference in the 7 year and 12/21 year Miniture Medal is there are two different ribbons.
The die is suppose to be lost or broken,but a perticular gentleman in Dublin is going to get one made!

What's the point in getting the minatures if you have to wait 10 years for the 7 year medal, 18 years for the 12 and you get the 21 year medal pinned to the uniforn you get buried in?

In total I have 18 years service between PDF, 1st and 2nd line Reserve.
I still have no medals.

Actually GOC neither am I but why shouldn't it?
Depending on the 1st line reserve would be called out before the RDF. Hence 1st & 2nd line reserve.
I havn't met anyone who can give me a definite answer which is based on actual fact.

Sorry but you won't be entitled then, if you currently have 5 years service then that's all you'll ever have; you can't accrue 7 years in the FCA since it was stood down 30th Oct.

I presume when seven have years elapsed you will get a seven year RDF medal?

I don't know if this is the official line but I cannot see it panning out any other way, can you?

I think they'll just rename the 7-year FCA medal to the 7-year-reserve medal and keep authorise time spent in the FCA to count towards it.

NS Mess dress is very different, it is tails and all in black (for a change). I think the same hat is worn, i.e. same as daytime uniform.

NS/R Mess Dress is identical although I would bet the number of NSR officers currently owning a dress uniform is in the low single digits.
