I mean, there has been numerous postings on the subject (mandays) elsewhere.
Given the choice between an RDF Career Course of some description and An Campa
Gaeilge, I' m sure most would opt for the former
Now if An Campa Gaeilge had separate mandays allocated to it, then maybe
you would see increased RDF takeup on it... ?
An added effect of this would be that both the DF and the Government would be
able to say "look, we are doing our bit to preserve the language...""Well, stone me! We've had cocaine, bribery and Arsenal scoring two goals at home. But just when you thought there were truly no surprises left in football, Vinnie Jones turns out to be an international player!" (Jimmy Greaves)!"

People are probably quite reluctant to go on this sort of camp, since there's a chance that when their own unit's camp came around they'd be told "oh no, you've already done 7 days, no camp for you" (try to remember that units tend to put their own slant on whatever instructions they have recieved)

hedge - what's this 'unbreakable code' you refer to?
Irish is an officially recognised language the world over and taught to high standards and therefore our linguists would be able to learn this if required and there are Irishmen working for the other side all over the world anyhow lol!
i remember being called in to occupy a covert OP on the Tyrone / Monaghan border when some of our targets were conducting meetings and speaking in Irish to avoid being compromised - it's the only time in my life i ever wished i was better at Irish but i did get a C in my inter-cert and i did manage to intercept some of their conversations.
there are 5 different versions of Pashtun in Afghanistan and our linguists can translate all comms which our electronic warfare units intercept so you are better off sticking to good encryption!
from a military point of view - i reckon irish should only be used on the parade square or for ceremonial duties to avoid any confusion.
no comms = no bombs.

we dont use Irish in a tactical mode
and whereas we did in the Leb
we now use a system thats highly encrypted
and only send coded messages through the most tried and trusted carrier system

lol hedge - id ask GCHQ but they are a little busy right now and have switched fire from Ireland onto their own position to intercept 'home grown' Islamic terrorist groups instead.
kermit - i dont know what 'Interpersonal Tactics' are - maybe i've been using them for years but we have a different name for them!
