All right then, leave approved, I'll be in Dublin 2nd through the 9th, anyone interested in a get together in town? If anyone's interested, I'll round up a few patches and possibly t-shirts for trading purposes. I hope to have a slide show of my trip to the Middle East too. Any takers?
Over the centuries, mankind has tried many ways of combating the forces of evil...prayer, fasting, good works and so on. Up until Doom, no one seemed to have thought about the double-barrel shotgun. Eat leaden death, demon...

If you have to do it, you always have to do it right. Either it makes a difference, or it’s good practice so that when it does make a difference, it gets done right.
OK, Thursday 8th Feb 1900hrs I'll be in The Oval pub on Middle Abbey St. I'll have a copy of An Cosaintair face up on the table as a recognition signal. I'll give it 30 min and if no one shows, I'll probably head off. I brought some patches (from US DCU's) and a t-shirts (nothing great, it was a last minute deal) for those interested. Not able to get any ACU kit, it's still too new and I barely have my own kit.
FWIW I visited the display in Collins Barracks, excellent stuff. Great display. And you'll be happy to know they have replaced the badly worn beret on the UN display with a nice blue helmet. Hope to see some of you lads there.

Well lads, sorry I missed anyone who showed up. As Slacker pointed out, I set the link up a bit early, lesson learned, will sort it out better next time. Still it was a great trip, first time in 9 years. Dublin has changed, but in many ways it hasn't. Now that I'm back, the rumours abound of another trip to the Middle East as part of the "surge" as it were. Three deployments in four years, there are active duty troops with less for fcuks sake. Still, I supposed we "took the Kings Shilling" as it were.
On a completely unrelated note, I did pick up COL (Rtd) Tim Collins book "Rules of Engagement" bloody good read about a career in the Royal Irish Rangers, great stuff, I was suprised by the number of Irish in the BA, especially officers. Great read though, especially about how his career ended.
