I dunno really, in other countries they take volunteers "off the streets" so to speak, after training they have full powers, with no problems. This isn't some mad Inew experimental idea, part-time volunteer policing has been shown to work well all over the world.

Anyway, I'm not sure Ireland, and particularly the Gardai are ready for the idea yet. I served as a part-timer in the UK, and enjoyed it greatly, but wouldn't do so here even if the opportunity arose. I think the reception a freshly minted volunteer would receive walking into the briefing room in many Garda stations could be somewhat less then welcoming, and Ireland being the small place it is, it could be awkward going to work with someone in the morning, after arresting that person's brother / cousin / mother-in-law the night before.

With 50,000 men getting killed a week, who's going to miss a pigeon?

Kind of like an FCA corporal telling a PDF 3* what he can and can't do?

Deep down, they all know what the stripes mean, and what the uniform means. It just takes a minute for the attitude adjustment to kick in , and the resentment will always be there regardless. Fcuk whether they're ready for or not, they're not the ones who need to be ready.

Yeah, I been told no before, but it's more like no, no, NO!

Is the driver who wanted to sleep in that ambulance in the Glen present by any chance? Or his NCO mates who threatened to get the officer over to order me to let him sleep in the back? I never bluff!

And you were still more comfy than the rest of us with your campbed, pussy
Take these men and women for your example.
Like them, remember that posterity can only
be for the free; that freedom is the sure
possession of those who have the
      courage to defend it.

Liberty is being free from the things we don't like in order to be slaves of the things we do like.
