A real welcome . . . .

I have heard from mates in A Company (62 Res Inf Bn) in Baldonnel, that the Air Corps guys there really make them feel welcome, and help them in any way they can.
A Company are the first ever Reserve unit (FCA or RDF) in be located in Baldonnel, moving there in late 2005, as part of the establishment of the RDF.
Some Air Corps guys have even had relatives join A Company, which is a good thing overall, and augurs well for the future.

My Cousin passed put their as a Two Star and thats good to know that RDF unit and Air Corps our building up a good relationship togthers it bears very well for the future.

Baldonnel was the staging point for NS/NSR for the Easter Parade and we were fed like Kings. A real effort was made and more importantly it was very well organized.

Lad's, the issue of Sam Browne's has been discussed to death.

The reports from Baldonnel regarding this are positive on both sides it seems which is great. Maybe other units of the PDF will take a leaf out of the Air Corps book.

I know that A Coy have been used by the air corps on many occasions to play enemy in tactical exercises. I think they have played enemy fo at least two sets of air corps recruits.
As for the above picure. i think that is just the A Coy 2*s not the battalions 2*s. The rest of the battalion paraded in cathal bruagh i think...Now saying that, i am not 100% certain

Lads my item was about this aspect of PDF/RDF interaction, and the fact that maybe Baldonnel could be used as a benchmark for overall interaction. I am not in any way, putting down other PDF units, I can speak from personal experience that some elements of the 2nd Bn in Cathal Brugha , last June and July, gave us (62ndBn) massive assistance when we had full time activities running (Weapons and Recruit courses, and our intregated Platoon).
The Air Corps guys in Baldonnel seem to be doing the same thing, not just with 62nd Bn, but also with NS/NSR as stated by another poster.

The picture of the Bn parade in Baldonnel - All Companys of the 62nd took part that day, at least 40 recruits passed out, it was in October I believe, the picture does not, or was not intended to show the entire Bn on parade, it was in fact a snapshot of the BQMS, probably between 50-60% of troops present can only be seen in the photo.
It was also the first time that many non A Coy bods (includind myself) visited Baldonnel.
And after the ceremony, the Air Corps Dining hall took very good care of us !
As regards the item of A Coy helping the Air Corps in Exercises, that is true, not sure when it first happened, maybe in July or August, they also provided Camp Guards for the AC in whatever location the training took place (the Glen I think, but not sure)

Why is the parade not facing the flag?

Hi there
The layout of the Square doesn't really allow it. Parades face the Main Block (to which are attached the loudspeakers), as they are standing in the pics, or the Q Stores(to their left). Large parades are very cramped in baldonnel and usually involve units marching off after review to allow other units to move in.
Will this new unit be given any kind of aviation role, given that their "parent" camp is an aerodrome?

They have done duties, provided enemy for AC courses etc

They could start by giving anyone willing a course in ground handling of aircraft,such as marshalling, chocking and tying down, towing and pushing, attachment and removal of ground power, handling of ground service equipment and so on. There's a million tasks out there that the bods on the ramp and in the hangar could delegate to non-techies.
