  • Infantry Training

    please excuse my ignorance as I am not a member of the IDF, but I have a fella at work who is an ex member of the infantry and I think he is spreading a little too much BS about his training and abilities.

    He is often seen standing chatting to the female staff about his exploits and normally I don't bother listeneing in as it is all pure sh1te, but one thing in particular caught my attention. He claims that ALL IDF infantry soldiers are taught to fly a helicopter in case the pilot gets shot and he needs to take over!

    Now, before I call his bluff and out him as a complete Walter Mitty can members here confirm whether there is any truth in this?

    Eh.... he is pulling your leg big time.

    There are only a handful of people in the DF (the IDF is Isreali Defence Forces) trained to fly helos - All helos have a support crew on board. The Co pilot will take over in if the pilot is incapacitated. If it comes down to the soldier who is being carried, then it is time to kiss your ass goodbye.

    Secondly, flying a helo requires feet and hands and a lot of hand eye co-ordination. The co-pilot is already seated and can quickly take over the helo in an emergency. If both were down, it would require their bodies being dragged out of the seats and new people taking over - all the while the helo is rapidly plunging towards the ground. Not only is it near impossible, you will actually find it quite difficult to even stay inside it while the helo gyrates under uncontrolled flight. then again, I am not an expert on these sort of things.

      Good one. I must have been sick that day.

      Yes, he's a Bullsh1t artist. Infantrymen have enough to do being infantrymen without taking over from lesser breeds like helicopter pilots, cavalry types and whingeneers.

              NAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

              Your ruining his cover story

              this lad is trying to chat up a few birds by claiming he is a Heli Pilot

              If he gets to exchange bodily fluids with a female

              well done to him

              Who of us here has never ever ever stretched the truth in the pursuit of

              the ladies with large breasts

              I say back him up and let him fly
              Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
              Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
              The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
              The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
              The best lack all conviction, while the worst
              Are full of passionate intensity.
