I'd say of the Defence Forces (DF), it is generally recognised that in Ireland the DF is referred to as the DF.

One of many examples where hedge refers to IDF (Israeli):

I know it is highly ignorant of me to imagine that everyone on this board would understand that I meant IDF in this context to mean the Irish Defence Forces.

I would have preferred to use IA but I didn't want anyone to think I possibly meant the Iranian Army or Iraqi Army or Indian or Italian or Indonesian armies.

IRA would be a good one but it appears that this acronym too is already taken.

So in future I'll just use ARIDF - Anal Retentive Irish Defence Force and just pray everyone knows what I really mean.

Lads we really have an identity crisis going on here. How about RIDF - Real Irish Defence Forces?

If you were sitting in a checkpoint in Tibnin, and you got a message to say IDF Armour was on the way down to you, would you :
(a):Put on the kettle, they'll want a cuppa.
                (b):Request BMR?

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

Same as FMR, only smaller, and more local.
