I'd say of the Defence Forces (DF), it is generally recognised that in Ireland the DF is referred to as the DF.
One of many examples where hedge refers to IDF (Israeli):

I would have preferred to use IA but I didn't want anyone to think I possibly meant the Iranian Army or Iraqi Army or Indian or Italian or Indonesian armies.
IRA would be a good one but it appears that this acronym too is already taken.
So in future I'll just use ARIDF - Anal Retentive Irish Defence Force and just pray everyone knows what I really mean.
Lads we really have an identity crisis going on here. How about RIDF - Real Irish Defence Forces?Last edited by Guest; 21 May 2007, 18:54.

3- there is codewords and nicknames to cover such eventualities
4- the most ridicolous thing ever- every one knows the BMR are the laziest shower of sun worshippers ever
