  • New APWTs

    During Integrated Trg, we were used as part of a test group for a proposed new APWT.

    After completing it, I have to say it is 400% better than the current one, incorporating FIBUA type shooting, and some extra pressure in the form of running, a lot. No more bull with getting unload at every range, your carry the ammo with you in CEFO and do as directed. THe plus side is that it's over in under an hour! You also get to examine your targets (which are a new design also)

    The butt detail is a pleasure to work in now as well.

    We were shown the difference between the standard or British ranges and ours. I have to say, we look like a third world country. ( And before any one asks , the brits use Butt system same as us, no fancy electronic things to be seen)

    We were given a power point presentation about the new proposed APWT before we fired the table during Integration training.

    It was the same presentation that was given to CoS. A part of the new APWT is the design and awarding of a new marksman badge and also the inclusion of a master shot award. The latter being a distinguished shooter who acts as a coach to the unit. Most of the designs are in the very early stages of conception.

    The marksmans badge is invisaged to be weapon specific and is hoped to increase the competitiveness in achieving it.

    Overall view of the new APWT can be found in "Shooting" thread.

      The Master Coach concept is not new

      most Units had a Master Coach who looked after all the coaching on the range

      funny how when the little things fall away

      the bigger things like marksmanship in general suffer
      Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
      Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
      The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
      The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
      The best lack all conviction, while the worst
      Are full of passionate intensity.

        In our unit we always had a designated master coach as perscribed in manual.

        It's not so much a new concept, more a revitalisation of the award and coaching structure, giving recognition to those who perform well and to instill more interest and competition in APWT's

        The New APWT's certainly do that. The best part is that it gets the heart pumping, and the head concentrating. Not to sure on the very close range section but if the trend is showing engagements under 100m, its justified.

            Forgive my ignorance but what does APWT stand for?

                    Not really. There are a few extra props that need setting up but it takes the firing detail seconds to complete.

                    All that is needed is for the ranges to be brought up to an acceptable standard.

                    i.e. no grazing animals leaving shite everywhere, gorse cut down and the ranges landscaped properly. Compare Bisley and Kilworth and you get the idea.

                        TOET's are the Test Of Elementry Training that you must first pass to be allowed fire your APWT. They are entirely different yet inextricably linked

                        Are you sure you were in the PDF?
