last week i saw irish dpm ponchos issued are these on issue to the pdf or are they a new wet suit for the rdf ,
an instruction is also out prohibiting the use of foreign pattern wet suits which is a fairly common practice in some units , no problem unless you are not issued wet gear
"take a look to the sky right before you die, its the last time you will"
The Irish DF DPM poncho is on issue to PDF. From the recent PSO Ex I was on, it looked like most of the RDF were issued either Pochos or DPM wet gear.
Its a bit strange that the Issue Basha is in Brit DPM and not irish though. Was probably just easier to buy them rather than commission a tender for Irish DPM bashas.
"The Question is not: how far you will take this? The Question is do you possess the constitution to go as far as is needed?"
what is the purpose of having both poncho and wet gear ? they both do a similar job albeit the poncho is less functional ,
From talking to the lads in the PDF that we were attached to for the PSO, the only time they used their Ponchos was in Liberia. They'd throw on the poncho with nothing on underneath to go to the showers and back.
It can also be used as a Basha as some prefer to do.

My understanding is that the IP-DPM Poncho was issued to troops in Liberia as the issue wetgear was considered too heavy for the humid condidtions. I haven't seen it since.
Seemingly there are IP-DPM bashas in stores, although I haven't seen them myself.

The ip-dpm poncho is on general issue since 2004 .Not just overseas, but you were correct on its usage. The ip-dpm basha is only a recent item and only a few have em .Recruits in the second half of this year will probably get em.
"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.
5th Battallion Integrated were given both the DPM pancho and basha. The basha is odd looking, the DPM looks a bit french.

Not the new one anyway, it looks nothing like brit DPM. I'll post a picture of them when I find my camera if anyone wants.

The ones from 1999-2006 were british dpm .2007 version is ip-dpm.

Western Brigade Integrated Reserve got irish dpm issued bashas/poncho's/wetgear no problem as well.
Also, i've seen a few RDF officers straight off a recent YO's course come back with irish dpm webbing. Not many though, just one or two, i'm led to believe they were privatly purchased though and not issued to them during the YO's course.
