Signed Bailer... I thought they asked for the 29th, cos it was the best Battalion in the old army...

and is it only cash escort that the cav sqn( regulars) do at the moment.. MOD: This is operational information and will not be discussed here - warning issued

In answer to your first question, it WAS:
17 Inf Bn - now probably a company of 58 Inf Bn.
Also there was talk of 54 Cav Sqn being moved there - don´t know the
craic there.
In answer to your second question, that would be operational info, and we
would get hand slaps for discussing it !!!

Dunno what reserve units are in Longford...
"There is nothing braver then the heart of a volunteer" Lt. Col. Dolittle, USAC, 1941.
The HQ of 5 Cav (now 54 Res Cav) moved to Longford, although most of its members remained in Castlebar, where most of the cadre remain. AFAIK the night parades now take place in Longford, with members from Castlebar driving up.
"Why, it appears that we appointed all of our worst generals to command the armies and we appointed all of our best generals to edit the newspapers. I mean, I found by reading a newspaper that these editor generals saw all of the defects plainly from the start but didn't tell me until it was too late. I'm willing to yield my place to these best generals and I'll do my best for the cause by editing a newspaper"

That's a long bloody drive !!!

If they had cav vehicles in Castlebar, they could use it as part of their training.
Unlikely, as Castlebar is not a permanent military post.
Might have a minibus or two there though.

A minibus is not a military asset within the cavalry inventory.
Really?
So how do you transport non operational troops?

My point is that the minibus is not an operational vehicle within the cavalry squadron. It is something the squadron gets lumbered with instead of useful vehicles.
Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

The 17 Inf BN became part of the 56 Inf BN not the 58 Inf BN.
Its a Cav only barracks now. 4 Cav Sqn and 54 Cav Sqn. There is a lot of talk about closing it due to the improved situation in the north. I don't think it will be open much longer myself.

Ta for the correction. So all the folks in the former Coy of 17 Inf Bn have now become
Troopers?
