ahh thats the mistake you lads make
its not really extra weight
as the boys wont be wearing them on a march that long
they will in fact be carrying them in there back pack
which will be on there backs
so the wight wont make a differenceThings fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

Of course it is extra weight , even if it is on your back so as you can be more comfortable in a Kneeling position? there have been so many previous posts regarding equipment and the increasing loads of equipment.. some of it of questionable neccessitity
If you have to carry kit then you must always minimize to what is absolutely necessary.Then think about what in addition u may need or may be useful and then the the comfort items.
If you want to get used become immune to kneeling , sleeping on hard ground, getting blisters on feet , web burns from packs etc then get used to it by doing it more often and harden up nad stop pussying around,.. simple as that.

Having a rock split your knee cap open, I'd imagine, wouldn't be among the most comfortable things imaginable. Plus, if your knees and elbows are protected it would make crawling a lot more comfortable (faster) and would prevent injury. It also means that there wouldn't be any hesitation about throwing yourself onto a rocky surface to get down, you'd just get down.
Don't forget that if you're in pain constantly from the big indent a nicely pointed rock has made in your knee, you'll get worn down a lot quicker. Pain does that, wears ya out like. knee and elbow pads are light and carrying them isn't going to wear you down as fast as sore joints will.Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

proper crawling being the type that's the fasted while still alllowing you to be concealed? In which case, yeah, they're useful. Either way, the rest of it about not cracking your kneecaps open still stands. Plenty of people seem to have no issues carrying jetboils and the like, so why the fuss about carrying something to help prevent hurting yourself?Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Had a good look at the new pads the other day as the folks from my unit going to KFOR were getting issued them.They come in a little carrier bags to keep em together when carried in the pack.Oh,and they weigh f**k all,so carrying them when not in use shouldnt be a problem.:wink:"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.
