Its not cheap, its good value. Hopefully they will last nearly as long as the BAP.(40 years?)

Having had a look at a civvy USP over the weekend, I can assure everyone that the holsters available from the store with fit it.

The Custom Sport has the same dimensions as the USP9.

Which holster from the store did you try it with?
"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

I tried it with the duty holster, but the internal dimensions of the drop-leg are identical.

                    issue of pistols

I was just thinking with the new issue of pistols coming up, what can the RDF units expect to be issued ?

As the number of pistols is quite small and drivers and other such personnel in the PDF overseas are curenlty using styers, is it wise to issue such items to RDF.

I know this will be a hot topic but i just want to see what the general thought is on such matters.

The same as the PDF, I'd imagine, as the BAP's are being withdrawn on
a number of grounds, the obvious one being the age of the
                      weapons

As the number of pistols is quite small and drivers and other
such personnel in the PDF overseas are currently using Steyrs.
In the Cav, they have started issuing short barrels for the Steyrs so that they can
be manoeuvred through the hatches of the armoured cars. As featured a few
months ago in An Cosantóir, in the article on 4 Cav Sqn.The primary weapon
of armoured crewmen the world over is still the pistol though.

is it wise to issue such items to RDF?
Please don't tell me this is a PDF bashing RDF comment.

I know this will be a hot topic but i just want to see what the general thought is on such matters.
                      Stnadardisation is cheaper all around.
                      One uniform
                      One weapon, etc...

The P8 variant of the USP is the one adapted for the Bundeswehr (and is I assume the model we are getting) it has a slightly different safety.

                        P8 with modified safety: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Km2000.jpg

                        From th HK website
HECKLER & KOCH P8 - THE SERVICE PISTOL OF THE FEDERAL GERMAN ARMED FORCES

Upon exhaustive comparative trials, the Federal German Armed Forces selected the P8 as the best weapon and adopted it as their service weapon.

It differs from the USP particularly by the following features:

                        * P8 – specific arrangement of the safety and de-cocking lever
                        * Transparent magazine with special dust protection
                        * Barrel with lands-and grooves profile

New manual? How hard can it be?

"Put bullets in gun. Rack slide. Move from 'S' to 'F'. Aim at target. Pull trigger"

Well to be fair, double action and the decocker will be a big change for many who have only used the BAP.

Us lads are a bit different

the Manual for us informs us of the capabilities of the weapon

The newer type manuals also tend to impart doctrinal policy

on how and when to use the weapon

maybe we are a bit dumb, but wouldnt you rather we were called dumb

                                than ever have to say

                                Dude this means jail
                                Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
                                The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
                                Are full of passionate intensity.
