Bere Island has a delightful gym, used for the storage of the mankiest of the matresses in the back and the occasional indoor lecture.

It is a gym in name only, as you will find out when you get there...

And the answer to that is yes.

Our sole facility not connected to the RDF was the shop and the challenge of getting down to it before it closed at half nine(We usually had ''P.T.''(e.g. a game of soccer or some team game) at around half seven that lasted 'til half nine). Other than that there was the Gunner's Canteen where all the NCO's and lads down there on duties would go and drink every night. There were even groups on yanks in there when I was there. Recruits are allowed in there and you can get chocolate and cans of coke and what-not, but no alcohol.
And that's about all you have to do..

Despite not having a top-of the range activity centre, we were never really bored. You always find something to so(two or three nights we had a disco) and you make some great friends. Everyone I've talked to about it loved it and on the last morning everyone was saying they'd love to stay for another two weeks(if they could go home and get fresh clothes first that is)...

the population of rabbits is linked to both the time of year and the amount of curry served in the dining hall ,,,
gym no , accommodation is fairly good ,food is good, showers are hot ,,square is too small , the camp lacks enough training rooms making it a bit cramped in inclement weather ,,, and a clothes washing facility is badly needed...

In answer to your question Bere Island is very very basic. The newest item on the camp is the PVC windows that they put in back in the early 00's.
There isnt a whole lot to do but you will be kept busy by your NCO's. The 2 weeks will pass very quickly and if I remember the rules on drinking werent really observed on the last nite.

Obviously this Bere place is in Corkistan. A third world place. What shots are needed again before one goes down there? Hep A, B, C and D?

I spent a night on the Banba years ago, moored in Casteltown Bere for the Nt, Navy guys went to Bere Island with a 22 and came back with a bunch of rabbits that made a great stew later.

Technically there is a gym it just isnt though! There are still remnants of what used to be a basketball court inside the gym but most of the varnish has be pounded off by the footfalls of countless recruits.

Accommodation is OK bunk beds (only ones I have come across so far) but its good. Beware of the billets wanker and if you cant tell who it is, Its you.

                              Food is grand

showers are very hard to get used to impossible to sxplain how to get than perfect temp. Do not wear shorts in there you will look stupid.

Don't get me started on the square

The gym is OK for training but you can only have one platoon in there at a time. the only other place is the "church" and that doesnt really cut it!!!

We sent out clothes to the mainland to be washed after the first week!!!

Boredom is non-existant on Bere. There are always enough girls to keep you occupied.Admitttedly they dont look to good straight away but after a week they wil be models.

A little secret, There are two blond American Sl*ts that are on the Island evey year (supposedly) They like RDF lads.

Whatever you do next year do not interact with the locals (do not get drink off of them) we had two degenerate F-ups do that on mine and they got the shite kicked our of them by 7 locals. Then about 8 of our three stars took real good care of those locals

Anyway, I am looking for duties on Bere next year and my QMS is going down so I will probably get them so I will see you there TS!
I probably am wrong, sorry about that!!!

Please PM me to correct me.

But, not if I state an opinion, only if I state something as truth!!!

I have bad opinions but I stick by them!!!
