I’ve just noticed from the Dept of Defence website that neither the Minister for Defence or the Minister of State at the Dept of Defence was present at the RDF commissioning ceremony last week (25 Nov 2007). Instead a junior Minister from the locality, Sean Power did the honours. Is this, rather than the spin we are usually exposed to, a truer reflection on the esteem the Government actually holds us in?

No Defence Minister at the RDF Commissioning.....
"Why, it appears that we appointed all of our worst generals to command the armies and we appointed all of our best generals to edit the newspapers. I mean, I found by reading a newspaper that these editor generals saw all of the defects plainly from the start but didn't tell me until it was too late. I'm willing to yield my place to these best generals and I'll do my best for the cause by editing a newspaper"

It is SOP For the Army to make far more effort on Reserve Commissionings than Civvy government.
The COS and GOCs will always be there, no CIC though. And the unofficial title for the attending government minister seems to be "Minister of State for living the road""It is a general popular error to imagine that loudest complainers for the public to be the most anxious for it's welfare" Edmund Burke

Don't you know that these RDF officers are keeping the sword makers in business !!!
Who cares who was or wasn't there? It's just an oath ceremony anyway. But I suppose if the FCA is all you have going in your life it might be a big deal....:redface:Last edited by strummer; 2 December 2007, 15:30.No-one, I think, is in my tree...

1. Willie doesn't work on Sundays.
2. Willie hasn't attended some of the PDF ones either."Why, it appears that we appointed all of our worst generals to command the armies and we appointed all of our best generals to edit the newspapers. What a pointlessly stupid reply. Of course he works Sundays, like all politicians he turns up when and where his presence is expected. Secondly, name a cadet commissioning he has missed. The only ceremonies I can imagine him missing are for DE’s and the like, short term, commissions in name only. I hate having to make a personal response but this shit gets on my tits. If you have nothing worthwhile to contribute then piss off."Why, it appears that we appointed all of our worst generals to command the armies and we appointed all of our best generals to edit the newspapers. In response to Hedgehogs first post, I don't think the various Presidents have ever attended a commissioning of any kind. Normally the commissions are presented by a minister or minister of state. And yes, sword drill was carried out. And could we drop the "proper officer" crap please? Blame the system if you must on that one Hedgehog, it's not the RDF's fault.Cry "havoc!", and let slip the dogs of war!
