  • Disability in the RDF?

Can a person in full reciept of a the disability payment be accepted as a member of the RDF?

If a person in reciept of the disability payment fails to mention this during their medical/interview and subcequently is enlisted whats the df position on this sort of sit ?

If someone finds out that there is someone in their unit hiding this fact should they bring it to the attention of the powers that be ??
    Anyone need a spleen ?

Officially they shouldnt and you should bring it to the powers. But first think what it is.

If it is something very small (ie colourblindness) dont say a word I would advise.

If it is something big (ie legally blind) Bring it up with a recommendation of some sort.
I probably am wrong, sorry about that!!!

Please PM me to correct me.

But, not if I state an opinion, only if I state something as truth!!!

I have bad opinions but I stick by them!!!

If it's something they should have mentioned in the medical, but hid from the doctor, then it's a fradulent enlistment.

Well its not a small thing because this person is recieving a full disability payment and has been for a long time. They also think its great that they are getting away with it.
to get a disability payment the government must find you unfit for work?

              whats the disability

it could be the person has an undescended testicle

and that wouldnt affect their soldiering ability

especially if it was a female

The other angle would be to bring it to the attention of Social Welfare.

Either write a letter or contact them by phone.

But HH, if this person is fit to be in the RDF, then surely they're fit to work and shouldn't be mooching off the money you pay in tax right?
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

                        as I said

before we go ratting out some one

we should know the full facts

                        eg

is the person- in receipt of a disability allowance

and merely wishes to have something to do

to pass the time such as join you lads

DFR R5 Para 7(h) - a person in receipt of a disability pension from any source is ineligible for enlistment. As others have said it is a fraudulent enlistment.

DFR R5 Para 40(3) - people claiming / in receipt of disability benefit allowance from the Department of Social & Family Affairs are not allowed attend paid training. Some kind of circular went around units in the last year or so about this.

There is a question on the Attestation Paper (AF339 RDF, formerly AF517) asking if the applicant is in receipt of a disability pension. Again lying on that is a fraudulent enlistment and a criminal offence. It is also asked on the AF14A Medical Questionnaire.

The long and the short of is it such a person is defrauding the tax payer (us!).

If someone meets the conditions for DA from the Dept of Social and Family Affairs it is very unlikely that they would be able to reach the fitness levels required of a member of the DF/RDF.

                            From http://welfare.ie/publications/sw29.html#2

To qualify for Disability Allowance you must:

                            satisfy the Habitual Residence Condition*,
have an injury, disease or illness, or have a physical or learning disability that has continued or is expected to continue for at least one year and causes you to be 'substantially restricted' in doing work that would otherwise be suitable for a person of your age, experience and qualifications,
be aged between 16 and 65, and
                            satisfy a means test.

BTW the money to pay DA comes from taxes yours and mine.. if someone claims fraudently he is taking money from our pockets...
