  • How to spell STEYR and other big words...

were to be a multiple of the cost of a styre you
your posts might be credible if you could at least spell the name of the weapon you are supposed to be able to instruct on given your rank

You undermine the credibility of any thing you may post by not being able to even spell the name of the weapon!

Your own spelling leaves a lot to be desired at times.
ah well least I knew where my own rifle was at all times!

In fact in the case of the unit you served with at the time I wouldn't even go there.....Three star signalmen running around asking their NCO's to carry out safety precautions for them!

least you got your one back next day...and that was only because some one gave you a break...

when we didn't give you a break you were down a manpack for an singcar..!

Yeah we might have not been brilliant at the sigs part of it it but at least we had the basics right...

every man is a rifleman first...and should be able to spell the name of the weapon he is trained to use.

For some reason this thread is descending into childish word games, what the spelling of a name has to do is beyond me, many a man through history joined the military by signing his name with an "X" and managed to do his job.

One guy in my recruit platoon from Sligo could not even read or write, beyond comic books and barely able to sign his name, I helped him to improve, so lets leave the petty issues out of it before it spoils the whole thread.

          By the way:

          Fabrique Natinale (F.N.)

I seriously doubt many of the guys in the Army with me back in the 1970's + could spell it correctly. (Myself included).

Having seen some threads and posts on other forums in text speak it makes me wonder just what standard of education is being formulated with the youth of the world today

            I'm not correcting you Connaught.

            Fabrique Nationale Fusil Automatique Legere

            meaning FN Fully Automatic Rifle
The worst sin toward our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them: that's the essence of inhumanity.

              Fabrique Natinale (F.N.)

Yes just spotted the typo myself:redface:

              Fabrique Nationale (F.N.)

By the way the argument was about the spelling of Steyr,

nobody referred to the full title of:

              Steyr Armee-Universal-Gewher 77 5,56mm

              who by coincidence manufactured a:

              Mehrlade-Scharfschützengewehr Modell Steyr SSG 69 7,62mm,

which is very Fabrique Nationale (F.N.) 7.62mm S.L.R looking

Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.

Indeed. But how do you pronounce it, as a German speaker would?

Well its a town in Austria, so therefore a Austrian word so it would be more correctly pronounced with an Österreichisch's accent
