  • What is FCA??? Did the Re-org happen?

Was looking at a recent Connect Magazine (March 2008). It has the Army ranks laid out which I thought would be a handy guide for Recruits. Uses SD uniforms but still is a good guide.

Was perusing it later in the evening and noticed a new unit in the Army - called the FCA. Now this connect was dated 2008 so they could not be referring to the organisation that existed before the Re-org of 2005 that created the Army Reserve. So what is this new unit? Has a similiar beret to that of the AR and the ARW. For a few minute I was thinking it could be the ARW but then I saw the ARW listed seperately. Then I saw an FCA officer had a Glengarry similiar to that of an AR Officer. Could it maybe be a Cav unit??? But No, Cav were also listed seperately. So what was this new unit? Then I slowly realised that the Army Reserve was not listed. Surely they could not be referring to the AR - 2 1/2 years after the Re-org???

If you're talking about the thing I think you're talking about, it's a reprint of something originally produced a good while before the reorg.

      And that excuses it how?

It has been 2 & 1/2 years since the re-org. If it is wrong, don't print it. If you really want to print it, change it to make it correct. Don't they have a proof reader who checks these things. It is a DF publication that reaches the public. If it appeared in a National newspaper, Reservists would not be happy about it but this is a DF publication - they should know better.

The same picture for Naval ranks all Naval NCOs still wear rank markings on their shoulder...nowhere else. Oh, and Female Senior Rates don't exist either.

Connect should have used this one though. It wouldn't have been difficult to find. It is on the DF website after all..

Got my An Cosantoir today. Another month where the RDF has not featured in an article of their own. Got a paragraph and a photo or 2. That's 3 or 4 months now that that has happened. Added to this FCA thing, you begin to wonder if An Cosantoir have something against the RDF.

I did notice that this month's magazine seemed to have a lot of articles written by Wesley Bourke
(the An Cosantóir staff journalist) or by uncreditted authors. Maybe there's a scarcity of articles
from serving DF personnel in general, rather than just from RDF personnel

Several times. None have been printed. Maybe Reservists have stopped submitting Articles because they know they won't be printed by, what is percieved to be, an Anti-RDF publication.

have to agree with Docman on this one im afraid. An Cosantoir rarely has any articles or info related to the RDF. they show all upcoming courses for PDF but not RDF. there isnt even info on the Integrated etc.

No matter what way you look at it , it is Laziness and sloppyness from An Cosantoir.

Well they only managed to produce 9 issues last year.

Well RDF got a good mention in the article's entitled 'Eye's on the Enemy' and 'Super Troopers' regarding RDF Integration and RDF/PDF Cav cross training.Maybe it is case of there isn't always something to write about. As for articles submitted..who knows?
I will see you in the tall grass...

It was actually quite incorrect. There was no issue with Interoperability on the Corps concentration with the RDF and the AML 20, as the Cav only brought one AML20.

The RDF have had a reasonable number of articles in An Cosantoir over the recent years.

There has??? you must be getting a different An Cosantoir to me.

There are, on average, 10 articles per issue of An Cosantoir. The RDF, given its size etc, should merit 1. That is a reasonable figure? Admittedly it is up to people to submit articles but An Cosantoir do some of their own stuff

Now Can anyone actually tell me when The RDF had an article in An Cosantoir???

I've gone through my back issues (missing dec) and can't find the last article which was about the RDF. A quick look through the last years worth of An Cosantoir and .... nothing.

This month, they called the Army Reserve The FCA.

I'm not saying their is an anti-RDF bias in An Cosantoir but it would be easy enough for someone to say there is. Their coverage of the RDF is poor (and actually, so it their coverage of the NS and AC but it is a bit better than the RDF).

most of the An Cosantoir articles are submitted from the rest of the DF . I've had one published IIRC so have you .....

for example someone might do an article on the orienteering , someone might do something on recruiting.

                              where's the history articles ?
"Are they trying to shoot down the other drone? "

"No, they're trying to fly the tank"
