i tried to take a days U.C. last monday and was told that our c.o. wasnt accepting it as he had decided that monday was a "rostered" duty for all, anyone know the official line on how we should be informed when "rostered" is in effect? i always thought that we had to be informed in writing, as in the notice board !!!

The official rule is that you cannot take a days uncertified if you are listed for anything, be it a driving detail, PT's, TOETs. In fact if you are operating on any part of a training program you can't take a USL, you report sick to the barracks by phone and tell them your going sick to your local Doc, with a cert to follow if necessary. If stuck in bed, tell whoever you talk to (make sure its the BOS, O/Officer or the Coy Office - not the switch or comcen operator) that the doc needs to come to you, most Bks have a radius within which the doc will call out, (especially if using civvi doc in bks)

If you are too far away then the bks has a responsibility to bring you in to see the doc, but if you want you are entitled to demand an ambulance with a medic rather than a nissan and driver.

By the way if you see your own doc and get a cert, it is very important that the cert says that you are unfit to travel, if it does not say this and you do not present at the bks then you can, and probably will, be charged with absence

I am not sure but I have been told that they can send an Ambulance to bring you in, But usually they wont!!

I'm looking for some clarification.

A few weeks ago we had a paid training weekend. One person failed to show on the second day and subsequently received no pay for the that day. Excuse was food poisoning.

As it turns out our unit is doing one week of our 2 week FTT in Limerick and so most people are not being billeted in barracks. So what happens if there is a similar scenario? If everyone was in barracks he would just go to the medic or have the medic visit him in his billet and everything is sorted. Is the medic obliged to travel to his house to see him? Does he have to come in and go to the medic?
