Can anyone suggest decent Patrol Packs/ Day sacks. I looked thru Ebay and the DPM is of the Brit type. Where can I get the issue Day Sack - Is it available in any army surplus stores??
Something that can be put into a Rucksack to carry mission essential equipment and some basic essentials in. It is not supposed to be bigger than the Rucksack itself.
Something in the 25-35L range is usually the norm.

Go raibh maith agaibh go léir
this issue one is a lowe alpine sabre, you can get them in lowe alpine shops, but only in OG (depending on stock availability)
but i find they tend to be quite tall when full, and all your stuff is in one pocket which can be a bit sh*t,
but its sturdy and durable and i wont be replacing mine too soon....
But there's no danger

mines in brit dpm, since its new it stands out but not much, it will wear down, i have seen others that have been the same when there were first bought and now just look like a dull dpm bag, personally i think its a great bag.

You can order them in in british/dutch type DPM form the great outdoors in Dublin.I had mine for years before the issue one came out.I will give you that about the no side pockets thing .However their are two lid pockets for TAMS/maps /small items etc.
And the idea of it being a long narrow sack is so it can fit down into the main compartment of the new Bergan and be removed without snagging when neede in a hurry.
Also it can take side pockets if you can get em.
"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.
Try the Camelback HAWG great bit of kit, had mine for ages and no problems to report. It looks strikingly similar to Irish DPM too. The cooler department in the rear is particularly nice.

i have a 30 -35 l day sack made by protac , its good bag by all means , and its very good as a grab sack stuffed into the bergen, however as a bag to take to range or as a substitute for began it suffers from having only th one compartment ,
see what you want bag for is it for going to range to hold your bits and bobs then extra pockets are good
as a companion to a bigger bag you may sacrifice pockets for ease of storage in main bag and compression straps ,
still see people happy with the rocket pouches solution .

I was thinking more about the side puches that come with it, both 12 litres and can be zipped together. You then also have the sack itself for a bergen or whatever other uses you mat find for it
what ? Never heard that .... say on there Apod [ very interested ] side pockets ?
I ordered an OG Sabre from Great Outdoors .. leave a deposit of 50 euro and it's in in 10 days.
you hope....
i know of other board members who had to cancel thier order, as it took eons to get and never eventually came in...
