Because paying an allowance to soldiers who do not qualify for that allowance is "inherently wrong and wasteful".
Do NOT forget the Border is still there
and they havent gone away
should we abolish it and then seek to re introduce it when another F & M appears

Irrelevant. The people stationed there, live there. There is no more justification for paying a soldier from Co. Cavan for being stationed in Cavan than there is for paying a soldier from Tipperary for being stationed in Clonmel.

Again irrelevant. The issue is whether they are entitled to the allowance or not. Clearly, given the reasons why Border Alowance was instituted in the first case, they are not.
Suppose the DF had lost the run of itself and started paying you as a Colonel for the last year. Clearly you are not entitled to a Colonel's wages. Would you consider it reasonable, once the error was discovered, to demand that the DF continue to pay you a Colonel's wages?

In the Don, the saga of Flying Pay was loaded heavily in favour of pilots first, then non-pilot aircrew, then the rest.When attempts were made to reduce wastage of FP, such as that being claimed by non-flying pilots in desk appointments and non-flying NCOs in hangars, the pilots made sure that their desk-jockeys and their fellow officers kept theirs, at full rate, while NCO and airman aircrew lost theirs or had it reduced.It was one of the issues that led to the demise of SAR in the Don.Imagine risking your neck in a helicopter knowing that some fat bastard, safe in an office, is getting a much higher flying pay rate.

Fair is fair, the money saved by getting rid of border pay could buy some nice gloves for everyone, or maybe decent wicking socks.
I know a person based on the border who is, and I quote "dead pleased with all this extra money for nothing".

No. They are drawing an allowance to which they are not entitled. It's really nothing to do with soldiers and their pay, it's more to do with corporate negligence in the Dept of Defence.

until this is ratified- our Fellow Soldiers are entitled to this allowance

2 your alleging that fellow SOldiers are drawing an allowance they are not entitled to

I'm not wrong as anyone can see from the C&AG's report outlining the reasons for paying Border Allowance 40 years ago. You are wrong in maintaining that Border Soldiers are entitled to BA in lieu of SDA.
And as I've already stated my fellow soldiers are not on the rob, they are being paid an allowance they aren't entitled to by the Dept of Defence.
It's actually a pretty simple situation. The solution of course is not so simple since the people in receipt of the money see it as their entitlement, as do you. Like them you are wrong.

Naturally. Although the "posh kids" wouldn't really give a fcuk because daddy would pick up the tab. It's the not-so-posh kids who's daddy earns a fiver a week over the free education threshold who would actually suffer.
