I ran into this problem in the UK college means 6th form (ie secondary school) whilst in Ireland college means university

Yeah, college as in 6th Form (16-18 year olds).

There is no career path for enlisted personel, you might be lucky and get into somewhere interesting, or end up on the main gate somewhere!

Think about what you want to do? Then see if the military can do it for you.

Dont think that the defence forces will promote you on merit, be warned!
