[MOD: Moved from Steel Container thread]

These young officers are having their third level eduaction paid for by the state while enjoying full salary.. I think they should count their blessings , It seems there is there is still a bit of a "Raj" mentality with some of the officers and yes I am sure they cannot be much worse than Gormanstown in the 70s or the Glen for that matter where they had to improve some billets for the Mc Kenzie Break film RE WW2.

      Did you actually read the

How many enlisted men pay for their own 3rd level education and do not get recognition let alone accomodation?

For God sake we see children not getting sub cover when teacher is sick, we see people getting laid off every day, we see cancer vaccinations put on hold, we see complaints about FAS and yet the army and the waste of money.

            1 Paying officers to study
            2 USAC in Galway
            3 Subsidised Christmas Parties
4 Helicopters sold for way below their value
5 Helicopters leased that are not fit for purpose
6 Young brats expecting my tax to give them a life of luxury they are not used to never mind entitled to.
7 A disciplined force organising illegal protests against barrack closures.

Lads wake up and smell the coffee. Rent a flat buy a house.

Do your job, earn your money but for the love of God if you're going to ride me at least have the decency to kiss me first!

What recognition exactly are you suggesting? I think the 10% bonus for cadet interviews is quite fair. Surely everyone is entitled to acccommodation in the army, enlisted or otherwise. This includes personnel on an academic course of study (all of whom sign an undertaking of service by the way). What kind of an army tells its soldiers to 'rent a flat' after it posts them somewhere?

Incidentally this tin hut issue was raised in the dail, that's why it made the papers.

DF members pay taxes as well so I really don't see where you're going with that one.

Are they posted to college? The point is that when they are in college they are students. What military activities are they involved in during term time? Why not rent a flat in the University town?

What happens if somebody studies in Letterkenny IT now that both barracks north of the gap are closed?

The reality is money and how it is spent. How does investment between enlisted and commisioned ranks match up? How much is invested on each over a 21 year carreer?

They may pay tax but they are not the only taxpapers in the state!

Incentives for undergoing third level education while also being a member of the DF. A smarter, more educated defence force can only be a good thing.

I dont disagree, I think that progress is being made though, just look at the intake of graduates into the cadets. From now on with the recession etc, I would imagine the brass will place far more emphasis on attracting new blood who already have Leaving Certs and 3rd level qualifications, even more so than they are already, the view being to eventually stop sending personnel back to school/college.

Very common place now happened locally afew years back here where only very senior people were allowed to remain 'living in' and the rest told to go find accomadation else where.

                          Are they posted to college?
                          Yes they are!

                          .

You'll find the protests are organised more by local business concerns and families of serving soldiers as opposed to soldiers them selves.

Be very careful what you post on this as you are almost suggesting mutiny here.

Very jaundiced opinion here as you will find the social profile of cadets has changed immensly from days gone by.
Covid 19 is not over ....it's still very real..Hand Hygiene, Social Distancing and Masks.. keep safe

If they don't want it, I'll certainly take a free flat in Rathmines (and college registration fees paid for me too)

me too, I'd happily live free in what sounds like quite liveable conditions if it made me that much closer to college! (Btw, I can't participate in college activities either because of my commute... boo hoo)
