  • Officers and tattoos

    Just read a thread on similar British Military board.

    What exactly is the Defence Force's opinion, officially and unofficially about their future leaders of men sporting tattoos? On the thread I was reading, alot of posters were stating that it could be detrimental to attaining a commission. Would the Defence Force's hold such views?

    And no, I've got no ink done!:wink:

    personally, i think that tattoos are unsightly.

    Iv seen alot of enlisted men with them and i dnt think its appropriate when sleeves are up and big tribal tattoos can be seen. in saying that i have yet to see an officer with one. if enlisted men have them, i presume there is no official DF view, however, im sure its frowned upon if it were an officer.

    tattoos should be allowed, but only in areas that cnt be seen when wearing uniform. this applies to most gov. jobs such as teachers and gardai as far as im aware

      I just love it
      Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
      Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
      The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***

                        The DF doesn't ask if you have a Tattoo - they only know if it is visible while you are in uniform.
                        I doubt you would get anywhere near a commission with a visible tattoo but they don't care if it is covered up.

                        Had this conversation before. Came to the decision that there are soldiers & officers. Technically not correct but sounds better than other ranks or enlisted.

                          I imagine by visible you mean a tattoo that is on the hands/lower arm, the neck, face etc?

                            Any part of the body not covered by the Summer Field Dress uniform ie "hands/lower arm, the neck, face etc?"
