Second Report
of the
Independent Monitoring Group
December 2008

The Reserve Defence Force (RDF) forms part of the Defence Forces. However, the
IMG agreed that it was not feasible to include consideration of the RDF in this
review
. The RDF has been engaged in a comprehensive process of re-organisation and
phased improvement in training, equipment and capability. The structure of the RDF
now mirrors that of the PDF. Of course, the RDF retains its status as a voluntary
organisation. The IMG is aware that since 2004 the Human Resource Management
(HRM) Section of the Defence Forces organised an awareness campaign, bringing
various groups from the RDF together for a full briefing with relevant information and
materials on the challenges of the Dignity Charter.

Just received this. Any comments on the opening 2 lines??

It is quite clear, that as far as the DoD are concerned, the RDF are not entitled to the same rights as the PDF.

The report makes for great reading though.
I know Apod will agree with much of it.

"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

I read it this morning. Some excellent recommendations. Perhaps Hedgehog might like to take a read. Some of the recommendations around Specialized Instructor Courses and noting finally around the A7 issue is worth a read.
"Are they trying to shoot down the other drone? "

"No, they're trying to fly the tank"

From what you have said here in the past relating to the "softly softly" approach.

I note the male Cadet on the front cover of the report is a former RDF member
(7 year RDF service medal ribbon)
"Well, stone me! We've had cocaine, bribery and Arsenal scoring two goals at home. But just when you thought there were truly no surprises left in football, Vinnie Jones turns out to be an international player!" (Jimmy Greaves)!"
