There will never be a reserve ARW, EVER!!!! And there are not many reservists anyway who could pass it, save a few.
There are feck all PDF who pass it, and they have had the proper training to do that shite!!!!
Tell the Truth, are you from one of the Southern Brigade Infantry Bn's????
Namely, 32 Res Inf Bn??? They are one of those Units that love to talk about this crap!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAI probably am wrong, sorry about that!!!
Please PM me to correct me.
But, not if I state an opinion, only if I state something as truth!!!
I have bad opinions but I stick by them!!!

Not a bad idea at all Bagger
we should be encouraging our troops to aim as high as they can possibly go
I am glad you enjoyed your 4 days on the Mountain side
I always enjoyed being out as well - I also enjoyed cribbing and I got even better enjoyment from
finishing the exercises-
I doubt that we will ever see a RDF ARW - but who am I to predict the future
but whats wrong with seeking to improve your abilities, skills, drills and fitness
to a level of the ARW.
We used to bring troops down tot he DFTC and do the life tests of the ARW-
It was a good fitness and pure bollix indicator- and I know that simply doing the tests can never
reflect a Selection Course- but it gave new found confidence to some of the lads.

The can't even get people to take up integration!!!! The ARW isn't supposed to have an RDF integrated element, what ever about getting a chance to do 3/4 week selection and getting the tab. Reservists are never going to be part of the ARW unless they join the PDF on short term contracts.....

DOnt knock the idea
we all know that there wont be an RDF ARW
but why shouldnt some enterprising Pl Sgt/Comd train and exercise his troops as if they were
going for Selection and I am talking green role not black,
let the Platoon learn and be competent with the basics and then
add to there drills and skills-
Its extremely easy to say no and knock something back as stupid or funny
He wishes for the cloths of heaven
Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly, because you tread on my dreams.

there is no reason that a reserve ARW unit could not be formed and operate to the same standards of their full time colleagues, everyone else manages it.
21 and 23 SAS regularly supply almost all UKSF manpower in Afghanistan, and their officers often command the force. they are reservists, they completed selection - exactly the same selection process as those regular soldiers going for 22SAS - and they do the job to the same standards as their regular counterparts.
so, is it that the Irish armed forces are so blighted by a mutilating self-hatred that demands that whatever task or ambition they set for themselves, they should fail spectacularly just to conform to their self image - or that members of the RDF actually are all genetically unable to run as fast, carry as much weight, shoot as well, and train as consistantly as their British, Australian, New Zealand and US colleagues?
answers on a postcard to:
'How dare they they take away my Free Clothes Assoc drinking club and make me become even remotely proficient in the task i signed up for' competion.

Reserve SAS units in the UK are made up of ex-SAS and specialists.
The reserve elemenmt of the ARW is made up of fomer ARM members.
RDF people doing selection? I dont see why not, its a course like any other. One of the reasons the ARW exist is to upskill the Army and anyone involved with the selection course will tell you that taking part in it will imporve your skills regardless of pass or fail.

You have to undergo infantry training before you can attempt selection and it takes about 1 yr.
They both have officers from 22 SAS to ensure standards are kept high, many are ex regulars or ex22 SAS. Very few people can go off to Borneo for 2 months for phase II selection etc, Infact the course pass rate is around 5% for civilians((Chris Ryan joined this way), so theres controversy over whether its money well spend, or should become part of 4 Para TA as part of the pathfinders.
In terms of the RDF, I dont see why they cant have a unit equivilent of the TA honourable artillery company. This is a unit which should also be created in the PDF.

"These are elite cadres within the Royal Artillery who are tasked with high-risk missions, often behind enemy lines, from where they call in artillery fire and gather intelligence.
Whilst not receiving Special Forces pay, the men of these observation teams carry out many similar tasks to UKSF such as covert insertion into enemy territory, concealment and intelligence gathering.
