If Industrial action goes ahead next Monday will the Defence Forces be in a position to cover Emergency Services.
Or as they are effected by the pension levy and maybe effected by other proposed taxes, i.e. Tax of 17.5% on lump sum, are they in a position to show their feelings regarding their Financial position
Anybody with memebership to SIPTU within the HSE has been advised that they will be expected to take part in the strike by their union.
It won't be announced until tomorrow what impact the strike will have although there will be 'acceptable' coverage offered by the members.
The whole thing is a bit silly as given its about lost monies, people who participate will not be paid and so will be at the loss of a days wages.
Annual leave that was booked for the day in question will cancelled if it was booked after the announcement date and those on rostered days off will be paid even if they do participate in strike action.
So whats to be gained except the employers recouping a days wages from all involved.
Covid 19 is not over ....it's still very real..Hand Hygiene, Social Distancing and Masks.. keep safe
The other thing is that local authorities and HSE expect staff to put emerency cover in place for the day of industrial action but staff will not be paid for this cover as they are deemed to be on strike.
if you are not being paid why provide the cover
I would love to know who thought up that one ???????
To be honest the facts are that the Army or Air Corp would be unable to provide the level of service or our certified to do any more then guard the the state airports or do anymore then provide anymore then normal static fire service (They dont have spare vehicles from the don to maintain a international airport even one's to allow for full operation for fire cover)or cover the IAA's ATC service.
The majority of the DAA are members of siptu and when you withdraw the functions of the Airport Police Service, Airport Fire & Rescue service, Airport Operations, Terminal Management, Passenger Search Unit etc.. these the duties the DF are no internationally certified or qualified to do with any degree of success or safety.
ICOA and other organisations are resposible for certifying the airport aithorities for running of an aerodrome. This require riqiourous testing by these bodies to get the licence to operate an aerodrome.
So I would imagine that O'Leary is just attempting to get some press coverage by these statement even though he is aware of the facts of running an airport.

British officer: You're seven minutes late, Mr. Collins.
Michael Collins: You've kept us waiting 700 years. You can have your seven minutes.
[As the British flag comes down]
Michael Collins: So that's what all the bother was about.
EMS staff have a duty of care and they are aware of this. Sheer human decency mean that if needed in an emergency most will help if they can.
Why should they be burdened by a duty of care when their pay is being reduced, regardless of whether they have a job for life ,pension etc, their takehome is still being cut.
Employers always play the Moral duty card, so does that mean EMS can never strike?
Are they not entitled to make a stand against a government and fat cats that broke this country.
You dont see ministers giving up one of their pensions or refusing the €3000 increment they gave themselves last week
