  • Funny radio stuff

Dunno bout the rest of you guys, but I use radios on a regular if not constant basis and I have heard some funny stuff over the years, military, civil and marine, I'm sure others have similar stories and seeing as we all need a morale lift right now... here goes. Feel free to add as required.

Having been given a single channel to contact a unit prior to exercise, called up..

'Helllo 21A this is *, MADMAN now, your location figures 20 over'

    silence

repeat above with impending sense of doom

'Uhh, tommo, did you hear that?'

'Yup, think the CIA might be on to us bud'

'I feckin knew we shouldna bought dese tings off yer man in the pub'

Needless to say, I elected to not continue with transmissions.

Also out one day on a rescue associated mission and there were a number of transmissions on channel 16 (marine distress) or an uncertain nature.

    'Static (giggles in background)'

'Unknown station transmitting on 16, Valentia coastguard, say callsign and nature of problem, over'

    'Static, more giggles'

'IF YOU LITTLE BASTARDS DON'T GET AWAY FROM YOUR FATHER'S RADIO, I'LL COME DOWN THERE AND DROWN YE'

    Silence.

    Regards

Also, funny ATC transmissions over the years:

In Frankfurt, where they give out yards if you don't know the taxiways!

'Frankurt tower, Speedbird 83 (British airways), did you say taxiway echo or echo 1?'

'Speedbird 83, have you not been to Frankfurt before?'

'Yes, once in 1944, but it was dark and I didn't land'

      and

'Lufthansa drei fier einz, ich mochte nach den stadplatz rollen'

'Lufthansa 341, you must use english on tower frequency'

' I am a German in a German plane, flying for a German airline at a German airport, why can I not speak in German?'

(Unidentified posh english voice on RT) 'Because you lost the bloody war'
