The 80th Army Cadet class will be starting in a few weeks. One question that springs to mind is: why does Irish officer training take so long at 21 months?
Two other models are;
British Army cadets who spend 44 weeks at Sandhurst, or
West Point cadets who take 4 years, but also do a degree in the process, which most Irish officers will have already, or do post-commissioning. (ROTC candidates spend about 40 weeks cumulatively in training over their academic course).
What is the common form of officer training in Europe?
Are Irish cadets particularly slow :D, or does their course cover a lot more material than others?
Will there be a move towards recruiting more graduates as cadets, mirroring international trends, and saving the DoD some money?
