Speaking as someone who up until very recently spent a substantial amount of time in the moutains and shitty planted forests of Wicklow pretty much anything that isn't luminous or reflective works as long as it isn't breaking one of the five S's.

That said, the US army digital pattern tends to bleed in the local colour scheme from about 15m outwards, so it starts to look green.

In much the same way that the colour pattern in our DPM tends to blob together at any sort of distance.

The US pattern looks great for the updated version of FISH which is FOSS (Fighting On Someone Sofa).

DPM Nametags and rank markings make you invisible apparently.

          Hi there,
The dazzle pattern did work, though. I have read that it was quite difficult to guage range when trying to sight upon one, as well as being very hard to distinguish in low light conditions. It must have been a penance to paint in the first place and to maintain. God knows how they managed to persuade their Lordships to put down the battleship grey.

                    rotten but no polishing

I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

I heard a rumour that it is nearly impossible to see a certain shade of pink in the desert at night...
Can anyone shed any light on this?

Yeah, that thing was trialed, but fortunately not adopted !!

I hear we are now going to coyote brown boots, for wear with both woodland and desert uniforms. We will now have 4 pairs of boots, vs the 8 I have now... (combat boots, gore-tex boots, jungle boots, desert boots...)
