Info courtesy of Jane's from the DSEi expo in London:

"The Irish Defence Forces have placed a contract for the supply of an undisclosed quantity of a Special Reconnaissance Vehicle (SRV) based on the Ford F series of 4 x 4 cross-country vehicles from the USA."

That's all I got I'm afraid, does anyone else have any info on the vehicle?

    Ireland to get SRVs

    Christopher F Foss

The Irish Defence Forces have placed a contract for the supply of an undisclosed quantity of a Special Reconnaissance Vehicle (SRV) based on the Ford F series of 4 x 4 cross-country vehicles from the USA.

The F-350 Severe Off-Road Vehicle (SORV), developed by UK company Ricardo Vehicle Engineering (Stand 455), is powered by a six-litre turbocharged diesel engine developing 325hp coupled to a five-speed fully automatic transmission. The vehicle has a gross vehicle weight of 4.49 tonnes and is already in quantity production for a variety of civilian applications.

The vehicle being shown at DSEi has a four-door fully enclosed cab and is fitted with military standard bumpers front and rear. A variety of optional equipment can be fitted, including a 24V electrical system and a central tyre pressure inflation system that allows the driver to adjust tyre pressure to suit terrain conditions. A 110-litre fuel tank is fitted as standard.

Ricardo is now developing a complete range of next generation rapid deployment platforms based on Land Rover and Ford 4 x 4 platforms.

Bit more practical than the Nissans..

yea maybe but what role could they carry out that the nissans couldnt? Do we really need more 4x4's. Would it not make more sence to utilise more the nissans that we already have?

They're armoured the Nissans aren't, so they can be used in more dangerous situations.

Overseas, they could be used as liason or VIP vehicles in rear areas. I think the BA has aquired something similar for senior officers in Iraq. At home they could be used by the ARW for descreet deployments and hostage rescue. They could also be used for VIP transport at home as well.

Perhaps they're getting ready for the queen?

But then again, she may want something a bit stronger than an amoured 4x4, maybe a mowag, or a scorpion perhaps?

What about armament or visibility isn't there need for an open top vehcle in this role along the lines of the land rover 110?

you all must be fools. a f&*kin 6 litres jeep. Why do we need a 6 litre
jeep, do about 10-15 miles to the gallon, the new hummer2 does 1 mile
per gallon, just waste of money. recon my arse, get out of the nissan and walk over the hill to have a look. would you not think it would better spend on trucks/apc etc
hurry up and wait, are you back yet
